One Reason To Protect Our Water September 22, 2016

If you want a clean place to swim, look for the blue flag.

blue flag certificationCanada is fortunate to hold over 20% of the worlds fresh water, which is why we need to do everything we can to ensure the purity of the water remains intact. One way to ensure our coastlines aren't being mistreated is to dedicate time to clean up pollutants, and teach others about the ecosystem surrounding our waterways. This is what the blue flag certification accomplishes. For every blue flag certification our country holds is a symbol of hope for the future.

What you can do to help:

First of all, visit the blue flag areas near you. See the wildness and beauty of untouched nature and become motivated to expand these areas. Secondly, get active and sign up for some volunteer cleanup. One such event is the Great Canadian shoreline cleanup, an annual cleanup event held every September. Lastly, keeping the waterways and coastlines clear by not polluting them in the first place. Seems obvious but by not buying products from companies who pollute, or by not buying plastic containing products that end up in the water system you minimize the risk. It's up to us to leave a long lasting legacy of protecting our water, our wildlife, and our children.

Canada has today 26 beaches and 7 marinas with a blue flag certification.
